The Lebanese
Studies Association is pleased to announce its Forth
Annual Best Paper Award.
We hope to repeat the high quality and breadth of last year's competition.
Past nominees and winners have been Guilain Genoeux and Robert Springborg,
Eric Huybrechts and Eric Verdeil, Mahmoud Batal, and Chawqi Douwayhi. orleans laptops
The entries should critically examine some aspect of Lebanon and Lebanese
Studies, including but not limited to Lebanese history, culture, society,
literature, art, film, architecture, and politics. The award means to
encourage and reward state of the art research on Lebanon regardless of
discipline. The first place Award will be US$100 and will be awarded
at the LSA's annual business meeting at MESA 2002 in San Francisco.
There may also be an Honorable Mention awarded. Furthermore, the award
winning paper will, with the permission of the author, published in the
LSA's new Lebanese Studies Journal.
Papers will be judged on originality, contribution to the field,
soundness of analytical and theoretical method, and presentation and
thoroughness of argument. Entries should be of publishable quality,
including footnotes, citations, and bibliography, and
should not exceed 7500 words. Submissions in English, French , and Arabic
will be considered. Entries are judged anonymously by an interdisciplinary
committee of academic peers. All scholars and intellectuals are eligible
regardless of membership to the Lebanese Studies Association or academic
rank. Scholars from the Arab world, Europe, Canada, and Australia are
especially encouraged also to submit entries.
Papers should be received by October 5, 2005, which will be strictly observed. Please mail entries to the president of the LSA:
